“What do you think a man does who has one hundred sheep and one of them gets lost? He will leave the other ninety-nine grazing on the hillside and go and look for the lost sheep. When he finds it, I tell you, he feels far happier over this one sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not get lost. In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish.” Matt 18: 12-14
Jesus is telling a parable here. He is explaining His heart for the lost. This story is a picture of the great lengths God takes to bring His lost children back to Him.
I love that we have a God who is always looking for one more lost sheep. He does not any one to perish. Not even one. He would rather leave those who already know Him, who are already safe in the sheep pen, and go after those who still need him, those who are still lost.
Where are you at? Are you still a sheep wandering on your own, lost on the hillside. God is right there, He has been searching for you, you need only to choose in to being found. Let go of trying to do it your own way. Let God take over. Let the Shepherd carry you home.
And what if you are already found? What are you doing with your life, your priorities, your time? Are you enjoying the cushy life from the safety of the sheep pen? Or does your heart beat in tune with the Father’s? Are you out in the trenches with Him, taking every opportunity to find one more sheep to bring home? Give the Holy Spirit permission to make your heart more like the Father. Let Him make you one who joins God in what He is already doing. Let Him make you about finding lost sheep.
