You get me

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. from Hebrews 4 verses 15 and 16

Jesus was tempted in every way that I am. But He did not sin. That’s a lot to digest. Sin is anytime I choose out of God’s best for me. It isn’t just big stuff like embezzlement or murder. It’s also worry, fear, gossip, loosing my temper with my kids…Anytime I choose out of God’s best for my life, I am sinning. As I sit here thinking about all the times today I have sinned, it’s humbling. How can I live up to Jesus’ example? I cant.

But Jesus is not just the standard, He is also my mediator, my bridge to God. When I choose in to Jesus being my Savior and King, His holiness gets to stand in for me. Now when God looks at me, he doesn’t see my junk, He sees Jesus.

And that means I can approach God with confidence. I am no longer defined by all my mistakes. I am defined by Jesus.

Jesus, thank you for your perfect sacrifice. Thank you for your life of holiness that I get to share in. Thank you that you get me. You understand me and have empathy for me. I don’t have to try and explain all of my day to you. You have been there. You are here now. You understand what I am going through and You are here to stand in for me when I loose it. Thank you for you mercy and grace. Help me choose in to God’s best for me today. Would you begin to make me more like you.
