The Lord turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?” “Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.” The Lord answered, “I will be with you” from Judges 6
Gideon is hiding out in a winepress, threshing wheat. He is already scared. Trying to scrounge up some food by hiding out, hoping his enemy, the Midianites don’t steal his last bit of food. He wasn’t a general or a king or even a warrior. But God had a bigger assignment for him.
But Gideon is hesitant to accept such a task. He comes to God and asks how can I do this? He reminds God that he is the weakest and smallest in his family. He questions why God would even send him at all. But God reminds Gideon that He is not going alone. God is going with Gideon. And that is enough.
God has assignments for each of us too. He has strategically positioned you and me in our neighborhoods and workplaces and communities because He has plans He wants to accomplish through us. And if God has given you an assignment, people He wants you to reach and love, than you need to obey. It’s time to go! You might be hesitant to say “Yes” and jump in. You might feel ill-equipped or ill-prepared, but God is saying “I will go with you”. And that is enough.
You, on your own, is never enough. But you plus God, always is. He is ready and willing to go with you. God is not sending you alone. He is waiting to go with you into battle. He is sending you and He will be with you.
Holy Spirit, thank you that you are coming with me into battle. Thank you God that you are not sending me out alone. Today I want to fully embrace your assignment for me. Thank you, that You going with me is enough.
